Greta Picklesimer: Spotlight on The Rejected Mail-Order Bride & a Giveaway
I hope you enjoy this week’s spotlight on Greta Picklesimer and her Historical Romance, The Rejected Mail-Order Bride.
Be sure to leave a comment below by June 25 for a chance to win her book. US winner’s choice of an ebook or paperback OR an ebook for an international winner.
My book, the second in the Love in the Kentucky Hills series, The Rejected Mail-Order Bride is about two wounded souls finding solace in the Lord and each other in 1871. The heroine, Rose Henderson, is running from a tainted future. The hero, Harl Adams, is running from his past. Can these two discover true love with each other or will scorned love tear them apart?
The reason I chose to set the book in a fictitious town in southeastern Kentucky is because I was born and raised in Michigan by Kentucky transplanted parents. My father was part of the great northern migration to find work in the 1950s.
Once our family was settled in Michigan, we spent many happy summer vacations visiting family in eastern and southeastern Kentucky. I loved exploring those hills and sitting on porch swings listening to stories about the history of my ancestors. I loved listening to the song of the elusive Whippoorwill who flitted about in the trees on the hill across the way at dusk while we sat on straight-back, cane-bottom chairs on the front porch.
Even though I wasn’t born or raised there, Kentucky has always held a special spot in my heart. It’s a place of peace, faith and hope that I want to share with readers.
Thanks so much for sharing the inspiration behind your novel’s setting, Greta. My husband and I visited our daughter in Louisville years ago when she and her husband lived there. It was beautiful!

When Rose Henderson steps off the train at the Harrisville Depot, she is confident that she can make a new start as a hatmaker and create a home for herself as far away from her father and his plans for her as possible. But when she meets the man who has promised to marry her, she suddenly finds her plans beginning to unravel. With barely any money to her name and an unstable future ahead of her, will Rose be able to find a place for herself in Harrisville, or will she have to succumb to her father’s will instead?
Harl Adams is a self-proclaimed bachelor, content to live on his family’s apple orchard and take care of his mother and the farm. Harl’s past as a soldier in the Civil War still haunts him, keeping him from any possible future with a wife and children. But when he meets Rose Henderson, Harl sees things quite differently. Rose is unlike any woman he has ever met before, and she challenges him to see things in a whole new way. Unfortunately, Rose has come to Harrisville to marry someone else, and Rose does not share the same faith that Harl does.
With a past chasing at her heels and an unsure future in front of her, what choice will Rose make?

I’ve been to Kentucky as my husband has taken our family through the contiguous 48 states through various vacation road trips. Many great memories!

How fun that you’ve seen 48 stated, Faith! I hope to visit them all at some point. I better get busy, though. LOL

I love mail-order bride stories. I love the time period they are set in and I love how it’s all about the characters just trying to find purpose in their lives and hopefully happiness.
Deena Adams
Hi, Vickie. I’ve only read a couple of mail-order bride stories but I really enjoyed them. A unique arrangement for our contemporary ways to grasp.
Greta Picklesimer
Hi Priscilla,
Kentucky is like a second home to me.
Roxanne C.
Christian historical romance is my favorite genre, and mail-order brides are always a favored trope.
Rose and Harl’s story sounds wonderful, and since she is not his mail-order bride, it will be a different type of romance.
Deena Adams
Thanks for chiming in with your thoughts, Roxanne!
Greta Picklesimer
Hi Roxanne,
Yes, this story is a twist on a familiar troupe. It was fun to write.
Jeanette Davis
I have not read any of this series, but would love to start. Sounds like a good read. Thanks for sharing and offering a book. If chosen, I would like a paperback book.
I do love books set in Kentucky not sure why have never even been there but there is something about Southern states. That being said, I also love stories set in my home state of Massachusetts (which I never left!)
Again that you for sharing and offering this give away, as always with a book I am interested in, I am putting your book in my TBR list on Goodreads!
Deena Adams
Hi, Jeanette. I love books set in the south too, but I’m originally from Georgia so that may be why. Thanks for reading and commenting!
Greta Picklesimer
Thank you for your comments Jeanette.
Kentucky is beautiful anytime of year. I’m sorry you never visited. Maybe one day. Thank you for adding my book to your TBR pile on Goodreads.
Kera bell

Hi, Kera. I need to make a list of the states I still need to visit and make a plan to get there! Thanks for reading and commenting on Greta’s post!
Greta Picklesimer
I’m so excited to be featured on Deena’s blog. Thank you everyone for your comments.
Greta Picklesimer
Hi Kera. My Books can be read individually and out of order. I hope you get to visit every state someday.
