Awed By Our Creator
I, along with my husband and our church worship pastor, traveled to Orlando, FL to attend a church conference. We had a free day yesterday and spent our time at Sea World. I had been to Sea World many years ago when our family lived in Orlando, and it was my favorite park. It’s still a beautiful place to visit and the variety of species, and opportunities to interact with them, is incredible.
Several aquariums boasted fish and sea creatures of all types, sizes, and colors. Sparkling pools were home to stingrays, sharks, mantas, sea lions, turtles, dolphins, and whales. We even trekked to Antarctica to explore the habitat of the penguin. The speed at which the penguins swam under the water was astounding.
Various tricks and stunts were performed by bottlenose dolphins at the command of their human trainers. We witnessed sea lions, otters, dogs, cats, ducks, a pig, and even a skunk, obey the commands of trainers. The icing on the cake was the whale show. Mammoth, killer whales waved at the audience, playfully used their tails to kick water on those seated in the splash zone, turned flips, soared into the air, and slid off and on the platform. All on command. Their beauty was mesmerizing and truly a sight to behold.
As I reflected on the day and the awesome power and creativity of our God, I was struck anew with a wonderful truth. As beautiful as those animals and sea creatures are, and as amazing as it is that God allows personal interaction with them, human beings are God’s most prized creation, the only part of creation made in His image. And we are not just allowed to interact personally with Almighty God, but created for it. God desires fellowship with us and opened the way through Jesus for us to be His friends. How incredible is that?
“So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. Genesis 1:27
“So now we can rejoice in our wonderful new relationship with God because our Lord Jesus Christ has made us friends of God.” Romans 5:11
The next time you are awed by a beautiful sunset, the roaring ocean, a majestic mountain, or the interaction between humans and animals, remember that you are an even more amazing and beautiful creation of God. A man or woman created in the very image of God Himself. Created for relationship and friendship with the Creator. Now that’s truly something to stand in awe over.
