Lynn H. Blackburn: Spotlight on Break My Fall

In Break My Fall, Book 2 in the Gossamer Falls series, we get the story of Dr. Meredith Quinn and Police Chief Grayson Ward. On the surface, their romance should have been easy. She’s smart, dedicated to the town, kind-hearted, and the cousin of Gray’s best friend. Gray is the protective type, gentle with children and the elderly, but puts up with no nonsense from those who should know better. He’s committed to staying in Gossamer Falls for the long run and has been alone for a long time.

You’d think they would be perfect for each other!

But no. Meredith has always had a soft spot for the less fortunate and is determined to make a difference through her charity dental clinics. If those clinics happen to put her in the path of hardened criminals who think she’s a nosy busy body who needs to be silenced, well, that’s just too bad.

Unfortunately, Gray has lost too many people he loves for him to be okay with Meredith constantly taking risks. He’s built walls around his heart to protect himself from hurting like that again, and he’s using those walls to keep Meredith Quinn at a distance.

As Break My Fall opens, we see Meredith doing her best to get over her unrequited feelings for Gray. She’s frustrated and hurting and questioning why God hasn’t fixed the situation. Meredith is a good girl. She’s kind and she loves hard. She’s tried to make the right decisions even when they weren’t her first choice. But there’s this one thing—a relationship with Gray—that she wants and she can’t have it.

I loved exploring the tension that we all experience when we’re in that waiting season. We may think we know what God has for us, but for reasons we don’t understand, He hasn’t given it to us yet. There’s a lot of wrestling that happens during those times. Those seasons always leave us changed and, if we let them, we come out with a deeper faith.

That’s one of the things I hope that readers take away from Break My Fall. That God’s timing is perfect. And His plans and His way are always best!

Gossamer Falls, Book 2

Meredith Quinn always planned to return to Gossamer Falls to practice dentistry. Now that she’s back home, she’s made it a point to offer clinics to children and adults in nearby underserved areas. Unfortunately, those same areas are known to harbor drug traffickers, and Police Chief Grayson Ward suspects that local law enforcement is looking the other way.

After too many losses, Grayson has closed off his heart. But when Meredith enters his life, his walls fall, and he’s left exposed and vulnerable. To keep her alive, he must keep her close, but that makes it impossible for him to retreat and rebuild. Will she be the one who finally helps him emerge from isolation? Or will this force of nature leave him shattered?

Lynn H. Blackburn loves writing swoon-worthy Southern suspense because her childhood fantasy was to become a spy, but her grown-up reality is that she’s a chicken and would have been caught on her first mission. She prefers living vicariously through her characters while safe at home in her pajamas! She drinks too much coffee, eats too much chocolate, does too little Crossfit, and never leaves home without a book.

Her current series, Gossamer Falls, is set in the mountains of Western North Carolina, and she’s already dreaming of what she’ll write next.

Lynn lives in South Carolina with her true love and their three children. You can follow her real life happily ever after by signing up for her newsletter at LynnHBlackburn.com. If you sign up, you’ll receive a free novella!
