Only God’s Opinion Matters

Yesterday my granddaughter and I participated as fundraising walkers for our local Crisis Pregnancy Center’s Walk for Life. Why? Because every life matters. The Crisis Pregnancy Center provides a wonderful service to women who find themselves in a crisis pregnancy. The goal of this ministry is to save lives, spare hearts, and share the gospel.

Many who walk through their doors are considering abortion when they enter. After receiving a free ultrasound, which allows them to see and hear their baby’s heartbeat, women come to understand the truth that they are carrying life inside them, not just a blob of tissue.

I encourage you to visit the website of your local CPC and become familiar with all the services they offer. I hope you, or someone you love, won’t need their services, but I’m so thankful they are provided for those who do.

Discussion about abortion and when a fetus becomes a human being are hot topics in our culture today, and there are strong opinions on both sides. The truth is, none of our opinions matter, only God’s does. I think His Word makes it pretty clear what He thinks about a pre-born baby.

You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body
    and knit me together in my mother’s womb.
14 Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex!
    Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.
15 You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion,
    as I was woven together in the dark of the womb.
16 You saw me before I was born.
    Every day of my life was recorded in your book.
Every moment was laid out
    before a single day had passed. Psalm 139:13-16

Take just a minute to watch the video below, and I think you’ll agree with God…this fetus, and every other on the planet throughout history, is a living being. A being that God Himself created wonderfully complex, formed and woven together in the dark seclusion of the mother’s womb. God saw you before you were born, and has recorded every moment of your life before a single day passed. Wow! What an amazing God!

Last month I went with a few friends to see the movie, “Unplanned.” In the opening scene, they depicted a baby being aborted by means of suction. It was horrendous and shocking to witness but unfortunately, seems necessary to wake us up to the ugly truth about what’s happening in our country every single day. May God help us know the truth, and speak up for those who can’t speak for themselves.

Abortion, along with the guilt and shame that come with it, are several of the themes woven throughout the novel I’m currently writing. I want you to know that if you’ve suffered through the pain of abortion and struggle to forgive yourself, or wonder if God can forgive you, freedom is possible. Our God is full of compassion and extends abundant grace, mercy, and forgiveness on all who come to Him in sincere repentance.

No matter what we’ve done in our past, God can redeem it and use our sin and pain for good, just as He does in the life of my novel’s main character.

O Lord, you are so good, so ready to forgive,
    so full of unfailing love for all who ask for your help.
Listen closely to my prayer, O Lord;
    hear my urgent cry. Psalm 86:5-6

The Lord is compassionate and merciful,
    slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love.
He will not constantly accuse us,
    nor remain angry forever.
10 He does not punish us for all our sins;
    he does not deal harshly with us, as we deserve.
11 For his unfailing love toward those who fear him
    is as great as the height of the heavens above the earth.
12 He has removed our sins as far from us
    as the east is from the west.
13 The Lord is like a father to his children,
    tender and compassionate to those who fear him. Psalm 103:8-13

Have you experienced the mercy and forgiveness of God in your life? Have you seen Him use your painful past for good? Join the conversation and give God praise for how He’s been faithful to forgive and redeem your past.
