There’s always an escape.
Sometimes you need to search long and hard for the right one.
After losing all he once cherished, Doug Zimmer follows his wife’s parting bread crumbs and rides up the Pacific coast—on a bicycle. Armed with a revolver and only a vague plan to get through the months ahead, he aims to end his depression one way or the other.
As spiritual forces wrangle for his soul, he pedals eastward across America. He meets Lauren Baumgartner—a younger adventurer with a vibrant spirit—and a band of zealots who confront his aversion to religion. Accompanying Doug are not only sunny days and the beauty of nature but also the perils of the road, fellow travelers with their own stories, and the hollow silence of solitary campsites playing host to unseen creatures of the night.
A jarring episode on a climb through a treacherous pass brings Doug face-to-face with life and death. Will Doug’s adventure deliver him from loneliness and lament . . . or hurtle him to an abrupt end?
After a thirty-year career in business, TIM BISHOP left his corporate treasurer position, married his dream girl, and embarked with her to parts unknown—on bicycles. Ten thousand miles later, the first-time newlyweds have written four books about their cycling adventures. Their devotional, Wheels of Wisdom, won four first-place book awards. Publishers Weekly dubbed it “a road map for life.”
Tim volunteers as a coach for a ministry that reaches people who are dealing with challenging life issues. He has written numerous articles for various Christian content providers and has been a part of three church plants. These faith experiences have given him an evangelist’s heart to reach people in creative ways.
A graduate of the University of Maine, a CPA, and a three-time Maine chess champion, Tim and his wife, Debbie, live in Middle Tennessee.

I was enthralled this morning and forgot to leave a comment!! It was so fascinating to hear about your bike riding adventures!!! I adore my bike, but have never entertained the idea of riding that far!! Good job, and I sincerely look forward to reading your book!!

Traci, I knew you would love this! Thanks for watching and engaging in conversation.
Tim Bishop
Thank you, Traci. Off air, I urged Deena to venture out too. There’s a little bicyclist in all of us! If you partake of The Persistent Road, please let me know what you think of it.

This sounds like a really good book. I live in Oregon so I smiled when you said Oregon is part of the story. I also at a time in my life I did not like Christians at all and now I am a strong Christiam so I can attest to that quote about persuing me until I accept or do a final reject. Once I accepted God began an amazing work in my life.
Tim Bishop
Yay, God! Thank you for sharing your testimony, Teresa. You live in a beautiful state.
Deena Adams
Hi, Teresa. I’m so glad you surrendered your life to Jesus! It’s amazing the work He does in us, isn’t it?
Marilyn Rushing
Interesting . Thank you for sharing!
Deena Adams

This book sounds wonderful Would love a print copy if chosen. Yes God does pursue us…but we still have the choice! Thank you for this interview and Deena and Tim, I love a hope filled fiction book as well…such a different genre then non Christian books.

Thanks so much for watching and joining the conversation, Jeanette. I appreciate your thoughts.
Tim Bishop
Jeanette, thanks for your interest. Yes, if most people only stopped to realize that it is a choice and the clock is ticking down on their time to choose.

I would love to go on a bike trip but I can’t ride a bike because I have CP so I can’t ride a bike. I have tried before to ride a bike but I can’t. it sounds really hard to do that. I have not read him before, and I am looking forward to reading his book.
Deena Adams
Kera, I’m sure having CP is challenging in many ways, and I’m sorry. My eight-year-old grandson has severe CP and is quadraplegic, so he is very limited in what he can do. I’m grateful for the device he has to communite with his eyes so we can understand what he’s thinking and feeling. Technology is amazing! Thanks for watching and joining the conversation!
Tim Bishop
Kera, you remind me of the things I take for granted. Too bad you and a friend didn’t have access to a quadricycle. I rode one with my mother when she was well into her 70s. It looked like this: https://bvmsports.com/2021/10/19/first-quadricycle-in-the-villages-of-florida/. It allows passengers to pedal (or not pedal) at their own pace. (That did little to stop her until leg cramps hit her a few hours after the ride.)
Lual Krautter
Sounds like a fascinating read! And, plus, since we, also, are in ministry in Deer Lodge, MT, where my husband is a minister, would love to win a print copy! (Maybe I could give it to him for his birthday that’s coming soon 🙂 Thanks for the opportunity to enter a great giveaway! God bless! http://www.facebook.com/LualOKrautter
Deena Adams
Hi, Lual. It would be fun for you to win the book and give it to your husband for his birthday. 🙂 Best of luck in the drawing!
Tim Bishop
On our third long tour, Debbie and I saw signs to Deer Lodge at about every turn in the road. We were cycling along the I-90 corridor, through towns like Butte, Bozeman, Three Forks, Belgrade, Big Timber, and Livingston.
