Zoom Author Interview with Jessica Sly and a Giveaway

By Deena Adams

I’m so excited about this week’s Zoom interview with Historical Fiction author, Jessica Sly, for a couple of reasons.

One, she’s one of my 2019 original critique partners from the ACFW online group.

Two, we got to record the interview IN PERSON!

Three, Jessica’s debut novel, The Promise of Deception, is fantastic and I can’t wait for you to hear about it!

Four, she’s an all around awesome person.

I hope you enjoy the interview!

For a chance to win Jessica’s book, comment on this post by October 26. The Promise of Deception releases in December, so what a great Christmas gift that would be to look forward to.

Thanks again for the interview, Jessica! It was such a blast getting to meet you and talk in person. God bless you and your writing. I pray for an awesome book birthday for you.

Join the conversation. Does the concept of a magician in an Edwardian era Christian novel pique your interest? What stood out to you in Jessica’s interview? Do you have any questions for her?

Be sure to comment by Tuesday, October 26, for a chance to win Jessica’s book!

The Promise of Deception by Jessica Sly

Adelynn Spencer, a spirited member of the Edwardian London upper class, struggles under the conditions of her engagement to Detective Inspector Baze Ford. But during the gala announcing their betrothal, events take a fatal turn when Adelynn experiences a vivid dream of a man dying with a knife buried in his chest. To her alarm, Baze and his men later discover the man exactly as she witnessed.

When Adelynn sees a second dreamβ€”a second victimβ€”she tries to convince Baze that there are more sinister things at work. Choosing hard evidence over Adelynn’s outrageous claims, Baze dismisses her and turns his attention to the location of the most recent crime, the Empress Theatre. Determined to uncover the truth of her visions, Adelynn investigates on her own. She infiltrates the theater and becomes spellbound by the charming spectacle of the resident magician.

As Baze wrestles with the decision to harden his heart or take action to protect the woman who means everything to him, Adelynn ventures further into the clutches of magic and murder. Can she keep her mind safe and draw the killer out of the shadows?

My endorsement for The Promise of Deception:

Steeped in mystery and intrigue, Jessica Sly’s debut promises to keep historical fiction fans turning the pages long into the night. With the skill of a seasoned author, Sly paints a compelling Edwardian era setting with well-developed, unconventional characters while delivering a magical plot that will have readers guessing until the satisfying end. Stellar writing, laced with a subtle spiritual message, catapults The Promise of Deception to must-read status!
