Welcome back to the Hope-filled Fiction blog, Jessica! Let’s start with you sharing the premise of THE OTHER SISTER.
A girl raised in foster care finds out she has a twin given up at birth who lives the charmed life. When she reaches out to the rich sister a tragedy forces her to assume her sister’s identity, but nothing about her life is as it seems, and she becomes entangled in deadly secrets.
That sounds so chillingly, good! What do you hope your readers take away from the story?
That our hearts are dark and mirror Charlotte’s. A heart unchecked and discontent can take a quick tumble and if we don’t repent and change, God will give us over to it and it will lead to depravity.
That’s a powerful message we should all consider. What is one of your favorite quotes from THE OTHER SISTER?
Want is an open grave that needs to be constantly filled.
Profound! Do you read your book reviews? How do you deal with bad or good ones?
Not often. I typically leave them alone, good or bad. Reviews sites should be safe spaces for readers to share what they liked or didn’t like about the story.
That’s a great point. Do you have critique partners or a critique group? What are the pros and cons of participating in such a group?
I have a writing partner (crit partner) and we’ve been together almost twenty years. We work well together and after so many years and books we understand how we think so we are invaluable to one another. I think small groups like 1 or 2 people are beneficial. Bigger groups mean too many voices in a writer’s head.
What a blessing to have a writing partner for almost twenty years! That’s amazing. Do you enjoy marketing and social media? Which platform are you most active on?
I enjoy connecting with readers and hanging out, making them laugh or encouraging them in their faith journeys. I’m most active on Facebook and Instagram. I’m not a big fan of marketing—no.
I’m sure marketing can be an overwhelming task. What advice would you give an aspiring author?
If you’re a Christian, then you should be writing WITH God not FOR Him. He should be a part of your process from start to finish and if you’re putting your words first (writing) before His (in HIS Word), you have a priority problem and need to fix that ASAP! 🙂
If you write WITH Him and He’s the most important thing then you shouldn’t worry about anything or get worked up over rejections and industry news. Pray over everything and about everything and ask God to lead you to the right houses, editors, agent, stories. And He will! It’s really that simple. We make it way harder than it needs to be.
Excellent advice, which I’ve subscribed to since starting my own writing journey almost seven years ago. What’s next from you?
My next Love Inspired Suspense releases at the end of May, Attempted Mountain Abduction, which is Bridge Spencer’s story. And I’m working on my 2026 dark twisty thriller, The Girl Upstairs, which is due April 30!
Thanks so much for sharing on my blog this week, Jessica. I love your books and I’m looking forward to reading the ones you’ve shared about today! May God bless you as you continue writing for Him and His glory!

The Garden Girls by Jessica R. Patch
Giveaway Book
On a remote Outer Banks island, a serial killer collects his prized specimens. And to stop him, an FBI agent must confront his own twisted past.
FBI agent Tiberius Granger has seen his share of darkness. But a new case sets him on edge. It’s not just the macabre way both victims—found posed in front of lighthouses—are tattooed with flowers that match their names. There’s also the unsettling connection to the woman Ty once loved and to the shadowy cult they both risked everything to escape.
Bexley Hemmingway’s sister has gone missing, and she’ll do anything to find her—including teaming up with Ty. That may prove a mistake, and not just because Ty doesn’t know he’s the father of her teenaged son. It seems the killer is taunting Ty, drawing everyone close to him into deeper danger.
As the slashing winds and rain of a deadly hurricane approach the coast of North Carolina, the search leads Ty and Bex to an island that hides a grisly secret. But in his quest for the truth, Ty has ignored the fact that this time, he’s not just the hunter. Every move has been orchestrated by a killer into a perfect storm of terror, and they will need all their skills to survive…

She thought she was the only one lying about her identity. Until she stepped into her sister’s life.
Charlotte Kane has always dreamed of a different life, one where she isn’t living paycheck to paycheck. An existence worlds away from the chaos of her own. Then her estranged mother dies, and Charlotte makes a stunning discovery—she has an identical twin who was given up for adoption.
Acelynn Benedict is polished, successful and seems to have everything Charlotte yearns for—a wealthy, doting family in Savannah, a handsome boyfriend, a great career. She’s just as surprised as Charlotte to learn she has a sister. But when tragedy hits and Charlotte is forced to assume Acelynn’s identity in a desperate moment, she uncovers something altogether darker…
No one in her sister’s life is quite who they seem to be. And every discovery leads Charlotte deeper into a web of deadly secrets. Charlotte may have wanted Acelynn’s life, yet now that she’s living it, she wants out. But if she reveals the truth about herself, it will mean returning to her old life—and she’s already a dead woman there.

I’ve read Jessica Patch’s work before, and I enjoyed it. Both of these books sound great. I’m attempting a suspense novel for the first time. I should read more of Jessica’s to get a better flavor for how to do it well.
