Welcome, Melanie. Glad to have you here this week!

Hi, Deena! Thank you so much for the chance to share my newest book with your readers.

Frozen in Jeopardy is book 2 in the Danger in Destiny series. This is a romantic suspense series set in the fictional town of Destiny, Texas. Officer Gabe Harrison is in a race against time when he discovers veterinarian Paige Wade is in danger. But who is after his friend and why makes no sense. Can he and his K-9 partner keep her alive long enough to unravel the puzzle?

When it comes to romance tropes, I love reading and writing best friends to more. In this case, Gabe and Paige have known each other since middle school. In high school, they both cared a great deal for each other, but after Paige experienced the loss of two family members, she vowed to never marry someone in the armed or police forces. While she and Gabe remained friends, their feelings for each other were pushed to the background for years. I thoroughly enjoyed watching them work together and realize those feelings never went away.

On the mystery and suspense side of the story, the research that went into this book was a lot of fun. I had the opportunity to go on a ride-along with a local police officer in the K-9 unit. I met his dog, got to watch them perform a search, and was able to ask a ton of questions. I also visited with our veterinarian about what goes into treating dogs with a serious injury, what the recovery is like, and how things are set up at the animal hospital. Both were a huge help when it came to being able to write so many details into my story.

Danger in Destiny is a series that focuses on the everyday heroes who rely on faith and work tirelessly to help their community, friends, and loved ones. They have been a true blessing to write.

Thanks so much for sharing about your book, Melanie. How exciting to ride along with a police officer in their K-9 unit! I love the focus on everyday heroes in our communities. I wish you the best with your writing.

He thought it was just a structure fire.

As a firefighter, Bryce Keyes is no stranger when it comes to running into a burning building. What he didn’t expect was coming face-to-face with the woman he loved years ago. Getting her out safely is one thing, but when it looks like she was the arsonist’s target, Bryce realizes he can’t just let her walk away again. Especially not while her life is in danger.

She’s desperate to escape.

For Megan Bristow, returning to Destiny, Texas was about saying a final goodbye to a dysfunctional family and the memories she’s tried hard to bury. She planned to go in, help her mother tie up loose ends, and get out again. When someone makes an attempt on her life, Megan realizes those loose ends are only the beginning of a tangled web, and she’s been drawn right into the center of it.

They’ll have to put the past behind them.

Only by working together will they be able to figure out who’s hunting her and why – before it’s too late.

    Hi Melanie!
It’s very interesting to see how you do such in-depth research…like doing a ride-along…. to bring real daily life to your books. You mentioned that you may present a character slightly in 1 book and then bring that character back as the main character in another book in the series. Do you know in advance with Book #1, how many total books will be in the series? Do you know who the characters & settings will be when you start that first book or do they “come to life” as you write?
    Blessings on your writing!

      Hi Lynn,

Thanks so much for reading and commenting!

I originally started writing Out of the Ashes for this series. Truthfully, Frozen in Jeopardy was going to be the novella, but as I did research, there was just way too much information to fit into a shorter story. So the book that was supposed to be book 2 in the series became that novella, and Frozen became book two. So it doesn’t always work out the way I think it will – ha!

As far as when I started book 1, I went through and listed a lot of potentially characters, some basic story ideas, then I dove in. Most of the time, characters and stories come to life as I write. I often find that it takes several chapters to get to know those characters, and I usually have to go back and tweak those first few chapters once we’re all friends. But if I can get to know a side character in one book, it does make it easier later if that character becomes a main character later on.

Thank you again, and I hope you have a blessed night!

I enjoy romantic suspense with reliance on God. I definitely like K-9 stories. Both books sound intriguing. I also like that you researched the profession you are writing about so it would be more realistic. Melanie, where do you find these story lines? How do you come up with a series?

        • Melanie D. Snitker

          Hi Kara!

Thanks so much for reading. Great question! I personally love series where all of the books are connected to each other in one way or another, even if it’s just that a character from book three is casually mentioned in the first book. I also love to create fictional towns, because it gives me a lot more room to play. Ha! As for the story lines, I usually start with one or two and then the others come to life as I’m writing. For example, I have a novella for this series that comes first chronologically. It was actually inspired by a mansion here in my town that has been left standing empty for decades. Every time I drove by, I imagined scenarios as to why it was there, why it wasn’t occupied, and what might be in it.

Gabe and his K-9 partner, Loki, were first introduced in that novella. And I knew they had to have their own book. So I start jotting down ideas for Gabe’s book as I write the novella.

In the first book of the series, Bryce’s sister (Bryce is the hero) is a side character. I knew immediately that she’d have her own book at some point, and I’ve got all kinds of notes written down for when it comes time to write that book.

I have a strong plan for the next two books, and I’m already getting ideas for the two after that.

I love seeing a series come together!
