Robin Patchen: Spotlight on Capturing You & a Giveaway

This week I have the pleasure of hosting Romantic Suspense author Robin Patchen. She’s giving us a glimpse of The Ballentine Mansion … The Other Main Character in her most recent release, Capturing You.

Growing up in New Hampshire, I was captivated by the grand old mansions dotting the coastline. There’s something about them that screams mystery and history. During a trip home last year, we visited our favorite seafood restaurant in North Hampton. On the way, as I admired the stately homes dotting the coast, the seed for Capturing You was planted. I wanted to dive into the eerie beauty of a secluded estate, one with a past so dark it practically drips from the walls.

Capturing You is set in the fictional town of Shadow Cove, Maine. Picture this: rocky shorelines, a quaint little downtown, and the Atlantic Ocean adding constant rhythm to daily life. The Ballentine Mansion, perched just north of town in a secluded inlet, is a silent witness to the murders that took place within its walls a generation before. The architecture, the hidden passageways, and the secret compartments are the perfect backdrop for the mystery the hero and heroine must solve.

Then there’s Forbes, who’s a little like the mansion—brooding, mysterious, and hiding his true identity. His personality is as stormy as the weather. (Speaking of weather…there’s nothing like a cozy fire during a power outage to loosen a grumpy hero up, a fact Brooklynn was pleased to discover.)  

Brooklynn, the heroine forced to take refuge with Forbes in his family estate, is the sunshine piercing through Forbes’s gloom. Her cheerful nature lights up the dark corners, both literally and metaphorically. As much as Forbes tries, he finds himself unable to resist her warmth and charm. I loved exploring the contrast between them—light and dark, hope and despair. Even in a place where shadows linger, there’s still room for beauty and love.

The Ballentine Mansion is more than just a building. It shapes the characters, their journeys, and their struggles. The harsh beauty of the coast reflects Forbes’s inner turmoil—and his resilience. Like the house itself, Forbes starts out detached and mysterious. And like the house, Forbes is shrouded in mystery, seeking justice for his murdered family, a quest as dark and complex as the hidden corners of his ancestral home. As his world brightens in Brooklynn’s presence, he realizes the living, breathing woman he’s falling for is more important than justice, or…though he hates to admit what he’s truly seeking…vengeance. 

In Capturing You, the mansion isn’t just there to look good. It’s a place where hope meets mystery and where love finds a way even in the darkest corners. I wanted to create a world that readers could feel, one that would leave a mark, just as it does on Forbes and Brooklynn. If you enjoy atmospheric settings, a generous helping of romance, and a good old edge-of-your-seat mystery, you’ll love Capturing You.
